What to do in Göcek?

The relaxed town of Göcek is situated on the southwest coast of Turkey in the Fethiye district. It hosts no less than six marinas and has been declared a Registered Area of Special Protection; as such has remained relatively peaceful being that high-rises are forbidden.

There are several shops along the one main street in town, with other gems hidden away on the back roads. Don’t be surprised if you happen upon some original, locally hand-made clothing, furniture and trinkets for sale. There is a weekly market near the town centre as well as a good range of bars and restaurants along the harbour's edge. Sit and marvel at the various yachts, cruisers and speedboats whilst enjoying a delicious smoothie from the beautifully designed Seashell cafe and restaurant.

There are a handful of beaches close to the town of Göcek, for those looking for a more laid back way to spend the day. Round the corner from the Belediye marina is D-Marin Göcek beach, in a beautiful unspoiled bay by the forest. There is a public and private area, the latter has sun loungers and parasols, take a picnic and enjoy being amongst nature. A mere 13-minute drive from the town centre is Inlice Plaji beach, which lies within a decent size bay. Popular with the locals and busy at weekends, this dark sandy beach has all the facilities one might need including, toilets, showers and changing rooms plus sun loungers and shades. There is also a cafe serving basic refreshments and food, as well as beer, so you could easily spend an enjoyable day here relaxing in the sun. Another two lesser-known and far smaller options are Osmanaga bay and Ayten Koyu, which have rather small stretches of beach mainly shaded by trees.

What better way to spend the afternoon than with a traditional Turkish bath and spa; treat yourself to a massage, sauna and a good dose of pampering at the Göcek Hamam.
