Why visit Sonnenland?
Sonnenland is a quiet and less touristy destination, situated in the south of Gran Canaria within the suburbs, with a large number of locals. The nearest beach is about 40 minutes on foot and offers all sorts of restaurants, bars and watersports to try. Food and drink in the area are typically Canarian while accommodation is far more affordable than some of the busier resorts; which makes Sonnenland an excellent base for exploring the island.
Things to do include the Aqualand Maspalomas Water Park and Holiday World Maspalomas which are both a massive hit with families (check the websites for opening times as these are seasonal). Fun can also be had at the Faro 2 shopping centre which has bars, restaurants, evening entertainment and mini-golf. There is a car boot sale at the shopping centre on a Sunday plus local weekly markets on a Wednesday and Saturday for food and handicrafts. Lastly, the Maspalomas dunes are an enjoyable place to spend time with a picnic and refreshments; to enjoy the sunny climate and views.
