Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, also known as San Juan Airport, is located just 3 miles (5 km) southeast of the city of San Juan. The airport handles over 4 million passengers per year, making it the busiest airport in the Caribbean.

What to do in San Juan

Start your trip by exploring the historic centre of San Juan. Within the original city walls, the old town comprises of cobbled streets, plazas, churches and boutiques. Explore the narrow lanes and discover the Spanish architecture, before stopping at one of the many bars for some refreshment.

If rum is your drink of choice, take the ferry across to the nearby islet, home to Casa Bacardi. The visitor’s centre is a must-see in its own rights, designed to look like a Cuban villa and housing an interactive exhibition of the rum’s history.

Of course, you won’t be coming to Puerto Rico without a visit to the sea, and Ocean Park boasts one of the best beaches in San Juan. Expect white sandy beaches, beach-side restaurants, classy bars and great views of the city skyline. Also on the coast is the majestic fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, at El Morro.
