Things to do

Sal is a quiet little paradise island, one of the smallest of the Cape Verde islands, that offers visitors white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. Its main town, Santa Maria, is a brightly coloured hub of life. Here you’ll find a mix of restaurants serving up local dishes, boutique shops selling local crafts, surf shops and beach bars. Most of the island’s hotels are located along the edge of the beach and there’s plenty of activity, from watersports to culture.

If you fancy exploring more of Sal, you can take a boat trip or mini cruise around the coast, or go island hopping and discover the rest of Cape Verde. Experienced divers will find it a fantastic place, with plenty of dive sites, good visibility and tropical underwater life. New to scuba diving? No problem, you’ll find PADI courses suitable for beginners.

Top attractionst

Island hopping is a great way to see more of the Cape Verde islands, and there are plenty of attractions to discover. The largest island, which once welcomed famous explorers Captain Cook and Sir Francis Drake to its shores, is a great place to start. Discover the old capital, Cidade Velha, maritime museums, shops and markets before relaxing on its volcanic beaches.

Other boat excursions may include the wild landscapes of Sao Nicolau, with its tropical foliage and old colonial towns. There are plenty of hiking routes here too, among the deep valleys and the mountains.

You don’t have to be an accomplished diver to see some of the local wrecks. In the 60s, the Cabo Santa Maria, a huge freighter ship, ran aground on the island of Boa Vista, just to the south of Sal. It makes an interesting boat excursion, especially for anyone interested in scaled the highest peak on the island; Monte Estancia.

Best restaurants

For some of the best views on the island, book yourself a table at the Farolin Restaurant at Hotel Odjo d'Agua. Located on an outcrop on the hill, you can see out to sea while enjoying a tasty seafood meal, steak or something else from their long menu. For a cosy and laid-back evening meal, head to Cape Fruit. Relax among the plush cushions or lie back in one of the hammocks while you wait for a freshly made fish or vegetarian main, followed by a choice of smoothies and dessert.

At HolidayTaxis, we recognize that every traveler is different and may have their own preferences and requirements for their airport transfers. To accommodate this, we offer a diverse range of transfer vehicles for our customers to choose from, each with its own set of benefits and advantages.

For example, if you're traveling in a large group, our minibus or shared airport shuttle transfers might be the best option for you, as they can comfortably accommodate a larger number of passengers and their luggage. On the other hand, if you're traveling with just one or two companions, a private car may be more suitable for you as they offer a more intimate and personalised experience.
