Why visit Nerja

Holidays in Nerja offer an authentic taste of Spain, as well as sandy beaches and lively nightlife. With lots of history and culture to explore, there’s much more here than just sun, sea and sand.

Things to do

One of Nerja’s key draws is its beaches, all 10 of them, and you have a choice of sweeping sandy coastline or little shingle coves to choose from. The most popular beach, Playa Burriana, is a 10-minute walk from town and offers shops and cafes as well as shallow waters for paddling. For more shopping opportunities, Calle Diputacion and Calle Pintada are the places to be. Here you can find wine stores, boutiques and craft shops.

If you want to see some more of the region’s beautiful nature, pay a visit to the marble and limestone caves where you can see the world’s longest stalactite. In the summer, the grottos make a stunning venue for operas and ballets.

Top restaurants

It would be a shame to visit Spain without trying some Spanish cuisine, and restaurant Oliva does a great take on traditional dishes with a twist. The best places to eat in Nerja can be found just behind the Balcon de Europa, in a pedestrianised area, where you can enjoy a wide range of international dishes and tapas while catching some sun on the terraces.

When to visit

Spain starts to warm up in spring and stays very mild until autumn, making it a great destination to visit if you’re looking to travel out of season. For the hottest weather, the best time to go is in July and August when the temperature reaches the high 20s.
