Things to do

Platanias is a lively seaside resort that offers both a charming old town and a main strip consisting of bars, restaurants and nightlife. Here you’ll find some of the best and most popular clubs on the island. It’s a great destination for anyone looking to discover the authentic side of Crete and have some fun at the same time. It’s also very popular for its Blue Flag beach, a long strip of sand that’s bordered by beach bars, cafes and terraces.

If you’re looking to make the most of the sun sea and sand, you can also walk along the main beach until you reach Agia Marina beach, where you’ll find watersports to try such as jet skiing, or Falasarna beach. Falasarna is widely considered to be one of the best beaches in Europe, boasting crystal clear waters, fine sand and stunning scenery. It’s also a top location for swimming, thanks to its gently sloping sands, stand up paddleboarding, kayaking and windsurfing.

Off the beach, you can explore the attractive old streets, enjoy a drink at a local cafe or go shopping in the little souvenir shops that sell local crafts and jewellery. For more shopping, take a 20 minute taxi ride to Chania where you’ll find its famous covered market, selling local delicacies and other items.

Top attractions

Don’t miss the opportunity to take a day trip to explore Chania’s old town and its Venetian harbour. Take photos of the colourful tumble of buildings and waterside houses, stop off for lunch in one of the rustic cafes or shop for leather goods and other local crafts in the boutique shops.

Other popular day trips include a visit to the ancient ruins of Aptera, where you can discover a Byzantine castle, ocean views and explore the former town. Or you can take a scenic drive to Theriso, stopping on the way at Theriso Gorge and enjoying the views.

Best restaurants

If you’re looking for something quick and easy, and easy on the wallet, you’ll find plenty of tasty little kebab shops and tavernas selling meat dishes with freshly made tzatziki. The best place is along the main street, where you’ll find a range of choices. One of the best spots for classic Greek dishes is Panorama Taverna. As its name suggests, it boasts great sea views from its covered terrace. The menu of moussaka, souvlaki and ouzo goes down well too.

For example, if you're traveling in a large group, our minibus or shared airport shuttle transfers might be the best option for you, as they can comfortably accommodate a larger number of passengers and their luggage.
