How long does it take to get to Val Thorens?

Val Thorens is 69 miles southeast of Geneva Airport, although the journey there takes longer due to the mountainous countryside in between. The quickest way to get to your ski resort from Geneva is with a pre-booked airport transfer with HolidayTaxis.

The nearest airports to Val Thorens are Chambery and Grenoble but they don’t have many flights and Geneva Airport is the main getaway. Val Thorens transfers are also available from Lyon Airport (which is 124 miles distance), as well as Chambery and Grenoble airports.

Things to do in Val Thorens

As the highest ski resort in Europe, with over 600 km of runs, Val Thorens is a hugely popular destination for skiing and snowboarding. But that’s not all; whether you’re looking for things to do with the kids or activities to enjoy when you’re off the piste, there are plenty of ways to enjoy a holiday here.

If you’re hoping to relax, why not try an enjoyable spa experience, such as a treatment or a massage. You could also try some gentle mountain yoga,  or book a stay in a glass igloo for the best views of the night sky. There are some great restaurants to choose from, including Michelin starred L’Epicurien French restaurant. Or, if you’re looking for some fun, enjoy some apres-ski at La Folie Douce bar, where there’s always a party happening.

Winter Activities

Aside from the obvious winter activities, Val Thorens has plenty to do for anyone looking for a break from skiing. For anyone looking for a thrilling day of excitement, there’s paragliding and paramotoring (paragliding with a motor). You can also head out in a snowmobile, try mountain biking or have a wild adventure ice diving. Or enjoy the timeless classic activities of snow shoe walking and dog sledding.

Summer Activities

Of course, if you’re visiting during the summer, Val Thorens is still a beautiful place to explore. There are endless opportunities for hiking and mountain biking, with hundreds of kilometres of trails available to explore. There’s also mountain adventure activities with rope ladders and bridges, quad bike tours and mountain roller coasters.

When to visit?

If you don’t have children then January is one of the best times to visit as, although the weather is colder, the pistes are empty and the snow conditions can be excellent. If you’re visiting with kids, Christmas can be a magical time of year to come, and April offers the chance for fresh snow and warmer weather. Avoid February, when schools are on holiday in France and it gets busy. April and June are also excellent times to visit for hiking, before the busy summer season fully begins. July and August are good for lots of organised outdoor activities.

Types of HolidayTaxis transfer vehicles
March 31, 2023

At HolidayTaxis, we recognize that every traveler is different and may have their own preferences and requirements for their airport transfers. To accommodate this, we offer a diverse range of transfer vehicles for our customers to choose from, each with its own set of benefits and advantages.

For example, if you're traveling in a large group, our minibus or shared airport shuttle transfers might be the best option for you, as they can comfortably accommodate a larger number of passengers and their luggage. On the other hand, if you're traveling with just one or two companions, a private car may be more suitable for you as they offer a more intimate and personalised experience.
