Things to do in Salamanca

Salamanca is a beautiful Spanish city with a lively atmosphere, thanks in part to its large student population. One of the best places to start your visit is in Plaza Mayor, the grand square, widely thought to be the most beautiful plaza in Spain. Illuminated at night, and home to several cafes and restaurants, it’s a great place to relax in the evening or during the day.

Some of the city’s finest architecture includes the Catedral Vieja, or the ‘old cathedral’, which has a stunning 53 panel altarpiece, depicting scenes from Christ’s life, topped with a huge fresco. The Casa de las Conchas, or ‘house of shells’, is another must-see, decorated with 300 scallop shells.

Best restaurants

For the very best meal in town, get a table at Victor Gutierrez’s restaurant. Chef Gutierrez has a Michelin star and the exquisite set menus change on a regular basis. For vegetarians, the only place to be seen as at Café Atelier. This lovely place specialises in vegetarian tapas and does a great selection of veggie burgers too. Another tapas spot, very popular with the locals, is Tapas 2.0, which markets itself as a ‘gastro’ tapas bar.

When to go

Spring and Autumn are easily the best times to visit Salamanca, when the weather is still hot and sunny. Summer often sees temperatures in the high 30s, and sightseeing is better suited to the slightly cooler months. The second week of September, when the city hosts its main festival, is a good time for a visit.

At HolidayTaxis, we recognize that every traveler is different and may have their own preferences and requirements for their airport transfers. To accommodate this, we offer a diverse range of transfer vehicles for our customers to choose from, each with its own set of benefits and advantages.

For example, if you're traveling in a large group, our minibus or shared airport shuttle transfers might be the best option for you, as they can comfortably accommodate a larger number of passengers and their luggage. On the other hand, if you're traveling with just one or two companions, a private car may be more suitable for you as they offer a more intimate and personalised experience.
