It’s the perfect place for hiking and walking, offering fantastic views across the Mallorcan countryside. The highlight is, of course, the ruins of a 15th century fortress, Alaro Castle. To get there is a two-hour trek, which will reward you with stunning panoramas out over the Tramuntana Mountains. You might even spot Palma on a clear day.

The town itself is lovely to explore, with a smattering of cafes and bakeries to relax at after an afternoon of wandering the streets. Saturday is market day in Alaro.
