Things to see and do in Lindos

Lindos is by far one of the prettiest towns on the island of Rhodes. Unspoilt by significant tourism development, it’s a village of whitewashed houses, cobbled streets and authentic charm. Visitors can enjoy two beaches, both of which offer clean, golden sand and a good selection of beach bars and cafes. You’ll be spoilt for choice with the watersports available; have a go at paddleboarding, try some snorkelling or see what you can spot on a terrific glass-bottomed boat ride.

Lindos is an exciting place to explore, and a walk around town will reveal a mixture of architectural traces leftover from Roman, Turkish and Byzantine civilisations. The highlight is the ruined acropolis, perched on a hill overlooking the village. In addition, you will also find beautiful churches complete with biblical frescos.

Come evening you’ll be pleased to discover Lindos is a lively place to be; There is a good choice of bars and restaurants, with a  great nightlife and something for everyone.

Top attractions

As mentioned before, perhaps the biggest attraction on the island of Lindos is the acropolis. This former fortress is a collection of ruins and what remains is; a Greek temple to the goddess Athena, the outer shell of the Castle of the Knights of St John and the remnants of a Roman temple. The best, and most typical way to travel up the hill to visit the acropolis is by way of a donkey ride.

For an easy day trip, the island’s capital is just a short one-hour taxi ride away. Rhodes Town is a UNESCO-protected town, enclosed within ancient city walls. Inside the town, you'll find a collection of art galleries, boutiques, museums, cafes and a palace.

Best restaurants

For a real taste of authentic Greece, head to Kalypso. Located in a 17th-century house, with traditional decorations, it’s a great spot to enjoy a meal. Menu options include classic Greek dishes such as souvlaki plus lamb dishes. It also comes with a roof terrace which offers excellent views of the acropolis.

Another top eatery for its setting is Mythos. Here you can enjoy locally sourced meat, straight from the owners’ organic farm, and some first-rate homemade baklava.
