What to do in Lourdes?

The town of Lourdes is a popular pilgrim destination due to spiritual visions by a peasant girl named Bernadette Soubrious in 1858. Nestled at the Pyrenean foothills this town welcomes thousands of visitors, mostly pilgrims, visiting The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes a statue to commemorate Bernadettes’ holy visions. The Moulin de Boly, now a museum, is the birthplace of Soubrious and portrays how the peasants and pilgrims lived.

In the outskirts of the town is the Château Fort, which is a short but steep walk, there is also a free lift, this houses the Musée Pyrénéen. Every evening at 9 pm a candlelit procession begins at the prairie and ends at the Rosary Basilica, a tradition which has been running since 1872. For walks and views across the neighbouring area and as far as the Pyrenees peaks, visit the Pic Du Jer.
