Where is Chania Airport?

Chania International Airport (CHQ), or ‘Daskalogiannis’, is 14 km (8.5 miles) from the town of Chania. Located on near Souda Bay, on the Akrotiri Peninsula on the north western coast of Crete, it is a growing gateway to many tourists coming to the Greek island.

What is the airport like?

Chania is a small airport with a single terminal and a limited selection of shops and restaurant options including a few bars, a gift shop selling duty-free, ATMs and currency exchange services. The airport is mainly served by seasonal, international flights.

Why visit Chania, Crete?

Often called the ‘Venice of the East’, Chania Town is one of the best preserved in Greece, and the most picturesque in Crete. A long history of settlement has left its mark in the beautiful Turkish and Venetian-style buildings that can be seen everywhere from the harbour to Chania’s romantic promenades. After a walk along the harbour wall to the Venetian Lighthouse, take in some culture at the Nautical Museum, Archaeological Museum or the Venizelos Tombs.

What resorts are near Chania Airport?

Chania Town has some nice little beaches itself where you can relax and, later on, enjoy the town’s nightlife. Just to the west of the town, Agia Marina is one of the most visited resorts on the island, with long sandy beaches and good facilities. 25 km to the west of Chania, Almyrida is one of the best beach resorts in Crete, with plenty of shops, tavernas and bars.
