What to do on the Isle of Man

The Isle of Man offers a mix of historic castles, folklore, island landscapes and outdoor activities. Sights include Castle Rushton, in the Market Square of Castletown and the ruins of Peel Castle, built by Vikings on St Patrick's Isle, connected to the main island by a causeway. You can also stop by the Balladoole Iron Age Fort, where you can see the remains of a Viking longship used in a burial. Find out more about old rural life on the island at the Cregneash Village Folk Museum, complete with a traditional Manx cottage, four-horned sheep and Manx cats.

Take the cable car to the top of Snaefell, the highest point on the Isle of Man, where you can take in the views or stop for a drink at the cafe. One of the UK's most popular outdoor festivals, the Isle of Man Walking Festival, takes place in October. It's the perfect time to visit and explore the island on foot, lead by an experienced walker, and finish the day off with something refreshing at a Manx brewery.
