Top attractions

The historic site of Nelson's Dockyard, which has Unesco World Heritage status, is by far one of the top places to visit on Antigua. Although it is located on the other side of the island, on the southern coast, it is well worth the visit and takes about 45 minutes by taxi. Visitors here will find a museum, but also shops, fine restaurants, hotels and lots of yachts.

The island’s most picturesque areas are also high on the list of must-see spots, and those include Fig Tree Drive. The road takes visitors on a drive through the volcanic landscapes, surrounded by banana and coconut groves, rainforest and attractive little churches and mills.

On the way to the dockyard you pass through Fig Tree Drive, the Island's most picturesque thoroughfare, which meanders from the low central plain up into ancient volcanic hills in the south. Banana, mango and coconut groves populate this drive of lush vegetation and rainforest as well as a number of old sugar mills and pleasant little churches.

Best restaurants

For a tasty breakfast with views of the ocean, head to Rafters Restaurant, which also serves lunch and dinner throughout the day. Another option at the resort for a gourmet meal is Sheer Rocks, an excellent restaurant and tapas bar specialising in fresh Mediterranean-style dishes.
