What to do in Kato Korakiana

As Kato Korakiana has over six centuries of history, there are a number of historical sites within the town to visit on your holiday. One of these is the Kastello mansion. Originally called the Tower of Polylades from medieval times, this tower has been host to several famous Europeans. Another historical site in the area is Garoufas which is just slightly outside the town of Kato Korakiana itself. The mansion itself is only ruins now, but is where Greek poet Dionysios Solomos would go to relax.

Kato Korakiana also has the National Gallery – Corfu Annex. This art gallery is inside the historical buildings Castelleto and Castellino. Art from the beginning of independent Greece in early post-Byzantine times all the way to modern times are on display in this gallery. One notable piece in this exhibition is El Greco’s “The crucifixion.”

If you would like to tour around the region surrounding Kato Korakiana the towns Dassia and Ypsos are very close and convenient to visit during your holiday.

Being located along the same street as the National Gallery – Corfu Annex makes this a great place to get a bite to eat and unwind after visiting the gallery.

Outside the heart of the city is Strapounto Grill House, which is roughly 1.5 km from the centre of town. However, another highly rated restaurant that is closer to the city centre is 60 Needles. This restaurant is located along Espar.Od. Dasias-Koakianas less than 300 metres up the road from the National Gallery – Corfu Annex.
