Things to see and do in Balaia

Well positioned between two of the Algarve’s most popular resorts, Albufeira and Vilamoura, Balaia offers visitors a more traditional, smaller and relaxed holiday setting. There are two Blue Flag beaches to choose from, both sandy and both just a short walk from the whitewashed villas of the town. The better known of the two, Santa Eulalia, offers an active mix of windsurfing and sailing trips. The smaller Praia da Maria Luisa is ideal for quiet drinks and has rockpools for the kids to play about in.

The resort is a popular choice for its golf, like many of the towns in the Algarve, and Balaia has a 9 hole golf course with scenic views out over the cliffs. There’s a Golf Academy if you’re in need of some practice, or you could try horse riding, tennis, hiking or quad biking.

Top attractions

Nearby Albufeira is worth a visit while you’re here. Do some sightseeing - stop off at the cathedral and ruined castle - then explore the Xorino Cave just under the cliffs. If you’re keen to try the local food then be sure to pay a visit to Olhos d'Agua for its sardine festival. The sardines, which are barbecued on the beach, are a local delicacy. If travelling with the kids, treat them to a day out at the Zoomarine zoo and waterpark.

Best restaurants

Popular with couples, and regularly booked for weddings, Passaro Azul is a modern but romantic restaurant with huge windows that open out onto a terrace. Here you can enjoy locally caught and grilled fish and other Mediterranean dishes, with views of the ocean. Alternatively, Restaurante Calheiros, in Olhos de Agua, is the perfect wallet-friendly eatery. Offering big portions for hungry holidaymakers, the menu has a choice of meat and fish dishes, as well as a kids menu.

Types of HolidayTaxis transfer vehicles
March 31, 2023

At HolidayTaxis, we recognize that every traveler is different and may have their own preferences and requirements for their airport transfers. To accommodate this, we offer a diverse range of transfer vehicles for our customers to choose from, each with its own set of benefits and advantages.

For example, if you're traveling in a large group, our minibus or shared airport shuttle transfers might be the best option for you, as they can comfortably accommodate a larger number of passengers and their luggage. On the other hand, if you're traveling with just one or two companions, a private car may be more suitable for you as they offer a more intimate and personalised experience.
