Things to see and do in Bansko

Bansko offers very different sights and activities depending on the time of year you choose to visit. During the summer months, the mountain town is a glorious place for hiking and walking, with lots of forests to explore and peaks to climb. There is a choice of swimming pools, mini-golf and tubing for families looking for some fun while cycling, mountain biking and horse riding are all popular here as well.

Pirin Street, Bansko’s main street, offers some shopping, particularly for winter sports equipment, plus a choice of cafes and restaurants. During the ski season, this is where you’ll find most of the apres ski evenings and parties, and there is some buzzing nightlife to be had here. There is also a little sightseeing to be done in the town, and a visit to the Neofit Rilski House Museum or the Holy Trinity Church offers a little insight into the history of the area.

Top attractions

Of course, the main draw for visitors to Bansko are its ski runs; as Bulgaria’s biggest ski resort, it has 16 runs in total, spread across three different mountain peaks. There is a ski school for beginners and children, as well as the option to rent equipment.

Another great thing to do while you’re here is ride the Septemvri-Dobrinishte line, a narrow gauge railway line that runs through the mountains, taking in some spectacular scenery.

Best restaurants

Don’t miss the opportunity to discover an authentic Bulgarian Mehanas (a traditional tavern) while you’re here. A meal usually consists of a light salad, followed by a warm stew or kebab roasted over an open fire - Mehana Chanove comes highly recommended.

For a more International menu, Euphoria Bar & Grill can be found right next to the gondola and does everything from Chinese to pizza or steak. Another option is the London Pub, which serves up your typical pub food and a variety of different burgers.

When to go?

It depends on what kind of holiday you are looking for as to when you want to go. For skiing and snowboarding holidays, the best time to visit is between December and March. Although December can also be quite wet, so not ideal for hiking or outdoor adventure type of holiday.

In the summer months, the temperatures can peak around 30 degrees, so a late spring or early autumn visit may be best for a holiday with lots of active pursuits.

At HolidayTaxis, we recognize that every traveler is different and may have their own preferences and requirements for their airport transfers. To accommodate this, we offer a diverse range of transfer vehicles for our customers to choose from, each with its own set of benefits and advantages.

For example, if you're traveling in a large group, our minibus or shared airport shuttle transfers might be the best option for you, as they can comfortably accommodate a larger number of passengers and their luggage. On the other hand, if you're traveling with just one or two companions, a private car may be more suitable for you as they offer a more intimate and personalised experience.
