What to do in Tallinn

The beautiful capital city of Estonia, Tallinn, is a UNESCO World Heritage site that makes the perfect city break. Offering a mix of attractive architecture, culture and interesting history, there are plenty of things for you to do during your stay here.

The most recognisable square in Tallinn is Raekoja Plats, located in the centre of the Old Town and home to Tallinn Town Hall. It’s the oldest town hall to be found in the Baltic and Scandinavian countries combined. The square itself is a bustling hub of city life, where residents can enjoy breakfast at a cafe in the summer sun, and browse the stalls at the regular markets. If you’re visiting in the winter, stop by to see the annual Christmas market, one of the prettiest in Europe.

Get your fill of cultural sightseeing with a visit to Toompea Hill, where you’ll find Estonia’s Parliament building and a mix of 18th and 19th century buildings - along with stunning views of the city (the other best viewing platform is located on top of the TV Tower in the Pirita suburbs). The highlight of the area is the St Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. Next, take a tour of the largest art museum in the Baltics, the Kunstimuuseum (or ‘Kumu’), for Estonian artwork and a selection of modern art from around the world.

Finally, head to the Kalamaja district of the city, an up and coming neighbourhood full of galleries, cafes, bookshops and bars. You’ll find it’s a good place to sample some of the nightlife in Tallinn. Finish off with a stroll along the ‘Culture Kilometer’, along the seaside. This coastal capital has a couple of beaches to choose from if you’re visiting in the summer, such as Pirita and Kakumäe.

If you’re keen to find out more about the history of Estonia, make time to visit the Patarei Prison, a 19th century sea fortress. It’s one of the best examples of a Soviet prison, and a tour guide will further explain the different rooms and its oppressive history. The Seaplane Harbour Museum is another top choice for history-lovers.

At HolidayTaxis, we recognize that every traveler is different and may have their own preferences and requirements for their airport transfers. To accommodate this, we offer a diverse range of transfer vehicles for our customers to choose from, each with its own set of benefits and advantages.

For example, if you're traveling in a large group, our minibus or shared airport shuttle transfers might be the best option for you, as they can comfortably accommodate a larger number of passengers and their luggage. On the other hand, if you're traveling with just one or two companions, a private car may be more suitable for you as they offer a more intimate and personalised experience.
