If you’re looking to take a boat trip, ferries and other boats leave from Puerto Juarez to various areas around the coast, plus visitors can rent boats at the Marina Hacienda del Mar. There are also plenty of water activities available for those looking to try something new, with diving lessons and snorkelling being popular in the area.

Top attractions in Puerto Juarez

Many visitors come to Puerto Juarez to access Isla Mujeres, which has one of the best beaches in the world, Playa Norte. Isla Mujeres is a stunning place to visit in its own right - You’ll find a turtle sanctuary, the Garrafon Natural Reef Park (where you can snorkel to see the amazingly colourful fish) and the Ixchel Temple ruins. A fun way to explore the island is by hiring a golf buggy, which allows visitors to take in the many beautiful sights at their own pace.

Another must-see destination during your visit here is the ancient Mayan city of Chichen Itza. The ruins of this 5th-century city are a UNESCO world heritage site and were recently voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Visitors can book a tour from Cancun which also stops by the Tulum Ruins and the cenotes (large sinkholes popular for swimming and diving).

Finally, no diver, snorkeller or swimmer could possibly pass up a visit to MUSA. This famous underwater art museum is home to more than 500 sculptures which have become an artificial reef for sea life. While being an incredible place to discover for scuba divers, it can also be experienced with a glass-bottomed boat.
