Things to do in Khao Lak
Khao Lak is the perfect destination if you’re looking to see a more authentic, unspoiled side of Thailand. Boasting pristine beaches, virgin forests and plenty of things to do, it’s an incredible location for nature lovers and outdoor adventurers.
Khao Lak beaches may not have much in the way of facilities, but they’re the perfect place to relax and get away from it all. Free of any development, you’re left with paradise coastlines with soft white sand and crystal clear waters. The sea’s visibility is sometimes as much as 30 metres, making it an ideal place for scuba diving and snorkelling. The area also boasts three national parks, the best of which is Khao Lak Lam Ru National Park, where you’ll find jungle, waterfalls and mangrove forests.
There are some excellent choices for dining out and nightlife opportunities too. The local hotels provide much of the evening entertainment, while Bang La On (the centre of Khao Lak) offers a choice of bars and restaurants.
Top attractions
Khao Lak’s most popular attractions include the famous Phang Nga Bay, as seen in the James Bond film ‘The Man with the Golden Gun’. The Thai Muang National Park is also a lovely place to visit, where you’ll find Turtle Beach; If you’re visiting in March, you may see baby turtles making their first journey into the sea. Finally, don’t miss the chance to see the incredible Chong Fa and Sairung waterfalls.
Experience some culture in Khao Lak, with a visit to the Wat Suwan Khuha Temple; this temple is made from a series of caves and contains an enormous golden Buddha.
