Things to see

Get a taste of the region’s culture and history with a visit to San Miguel Castle which dates back to the 11th century. When you take the path back down from the castle to the town, stop off at the Majuelo Botanical Gardens where you will see hundreds of species of sub-tropical plants from all over the world. Here you can also see the original foundations of fish-salting pits used during the Phoenician and Roman eras.

If you’re looking for a fun activity to keep children entertained, just along from the main beach is Spain’s only saltwater aqua park, Aquatropic, where you will find rides, wave pools and plenty of family-friendly attractions.

Resort beaches

There is no shortage of amazing beaches near Almunecar, the most popular and largest of them all is Playa de San Cristobal; a one-kilometre long stretch of sand with all the amenities you could possibly want and a good selection of nearby bars and restaurants. Two other lovely beaches are Playa Puerta del Mar, near the old town, and Playa de Cotobro, which is backed by a palm-lined promenade. Playa Velilla, Playa Del Tesorillo And Playa Pozuelo are some other pretty stretches along the coast.

Eating out

One of the best places to eat when you’re in Almunecar is at one of the beach bars, or ‘chiringuitos’, near the seafront; here you can sample tapas and grilled sardines alongside a thirst-quenching mojito. Choose from the chilled-out, rustic bars or relax at the nightclub-style beach bars which look like the kind you might find at Nikki Beach.

When to visit?

Almunecar benefits from warm winters and long, hot summers with temperatures that can reach the low 30s. The best time to visit, if you prefer a cool climate, is during the spring or in the autumn when the sea waters will still be warm enough for swimming.

Types of HolidayTaxis transfer vehicles
March 31, 2023

At HolidayTaxis, we recognize that every traveler is different and may have their own preferences and requirements for their airport transfers. To accommodate this, we offer a diverse range of transfer vehicles for our customers to choose from, each with its own set of benefits and advantages.

For example, if you're traveling in a large group, our minibus or shared airport shuttle transfers might be the best option for you, as they can comfortably accommodate a larger number of passengers and their luggage. On the other hand, if you're traveling with just one or two companions, a private car may be more suitable for you as they offer a more intimate and personalised experience.
