What is there to do in Malaga?

Although the Sun Coast has received some bad press over the years, look beyond the high rises and the tourist traps and you’ll get the chance to discover the authentic Costa del Sol. Malaga itself is the perfect starting point for an introduction to the rich history and culture of the region. Dating back around 2,800 years, the city has witnessed the rise and fall of the Carthaginian and Roman Empires, and later fell under Arabic then Christian rule. Visitors to the city can glimpse its colourful heritage in the ancient buildings that peek out between tasteful modern architecture, and in the ruins of the Castillo Gibralfaro that soars above the skyline on the foothill of the Montes de Malaga.

Or take one of our taxi transfers from Malaga and head further south along the Costa del Sol to one of the many resorts dotted along the coastline where you can take your pick of the white sandy beaches, complete with stunning views. Families will find calm and relaxing locations in the sun with plenty to do for the kids, while popular nightlife spots with plenty of atmosphere will appeal to groups of friends and couples looking to party. With all there is to do in the area, don’t forget to take in the beautiful sites around the local towns and visit the huge outdoor markets buzzing with activity. Steer clear of the pubs and English fry-ups in favour of the coastal Mediterranean cooking of the Costa del Sol; Andalusian cuisine is some of the most iconic and popular food in Spain. Homeland of tapas, you’ll be spoilt for choice with all the dishes to try, and any bar worth its salt will serve its own selection at a great price. Try the local gazpacho for a cool summer lunch and freshly caught local fish and seafood is a must. Nothing says ‘holiday’ better than sitting on a sun dappled terrace, sampling the local delicacies, with a view out over the azure sea.
