Things to do

Mijas Costa is an ideal base from which you can enjoy the very best of the Costa del Sol, with star-studded Marbella a short drive away and Malaga city centre not far by car. You’re also well placed to make the most of the beautiful beaches here, which you can experience all the better with a boat tour around the coast. CostaExcursions also offer unique tour experiences with an emphasis on authentic Spanish culture, including a tour of a citrus or olive oil farm or a winery. Or, if you’re holidaying with friends, Escape2Marbella organise fun group events and activities such as quad biking for stag and hen parties.

Attraction for families

There’s plenty of fun activities for the whole family in Mijas Costas, such as the Parque Aquatico Mijas water park, which is a firm favourite with kids. Or, for animal-loving little ones, try the Bioparc at nearby Fuengirola where you can see wildlife in a recreation of its native habitat.

For a relaxing afternoon picnic, why not go to the beautiful Muralla Gardens, where you can also take in the church and old bullring. Or, take the kids to the Mayan Monkey Mijas Chocolate Factory, the smallest chocolate factory in the world, for chocolate workshops, tasting and, of course, buying some treats to take home with you.

Eating out

Enjoy the Mediterranean climate with a side order of some of the freshest seafood in town at Centro de Mayores restaurant, which serves up traditional Spanish cuisine such as paella and has the perfect beachfront location. Great value and with ample portion sizes, it’s a top spot for taking the whole family. If you prefer a little more choice on the menu then try El Oceano Hotel & Restaurant. Offering a range of international meal, you can enjoy your dinner here out on the terrace and stay for the live music in the evening.

When to visit

The best time to visit Mijas Costa if you want to avoid the crowds but still enjoy pleasant weather is during September when the sea waters will still be warm enough to swim in. The hottest time of the year is during the summer months of July and August, during the peak holiday season.
